We perform detailed bridge deck condition surveys according to MTO standards, along with destructive and non-destructive testing for materials like steel and concrete. Our services include concrete/asphalt sampling, corrosion potential mapping, rebar scanning, drone inspections, and more, ensuring material integrity and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Expertise
  • Ground Penetrating Radar
    • Q&E Engineering offers advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning services for concrete structures, providing non-invasive, precise, and reliable subsurface investigations. GPR is a cutting-edge technology used to detect and map the internal features of concrete, such as reinforcement, voids, cracks, and other anomalies, without causing any damage to the structure. This service is invaluable for assessing the condition and integrity of concrete elements ,whether in existing structures or before any construction or renovation work begins.  Our service will offer valuable insights that improve safety, reduce costs, and support informed decision making in construction and maintenance projects.
    • Our team utilizes industry’s most powerful and efficient concrete scanner, the Flex Nx System by GSSI.  It is the most complete concrete scanning system with a maximum scan depth of up to 40 inches.  Scanning in those hard to navigate spaces has been made easy with its small satellite antenna.  New data collection modes harness the power of simultaneous standard and cross-polarized antennas, Flex Mode for quick prospecting, and live viewing on a paired phone or tablet.
  • Bridge Deck Condition Surveys
    • Conducting detailed bridge deck condition surveys in accordance with MTO (Ministry of Transportation Ontario) standards to assess structural integrity and identify areas needing repair.
  • Concrete and Asphalt Sampling & Testing
    • Performing comprehensive sampling and testing of concrete and asphalt to ensure material quality, durability, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Corrosion Potential Mapping
    • Utilizing advanced techniques to map corrosion potential in concrete and steel structures, helping to predict and prevent long-term deterioration.
  • Rebar Scanning and Analysis
    • Scanning for rebar location, size, and concrete cover measurement to verify reinforcement placement and assess structural adequacy.
  • Concrete Delamination Surveys
    • Conducting surveys to detect and map delamination in concrete structures, helping to identify areas at risk of spalling and other surface defects.
  • Drone Inspections
    • Using drone technology to perform visual inspections of difficult-to-access areas, providing detailed imagery and data for structural analysis.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
    • Offering a range of non-destructive testing methods, including visual, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle inspection, to evaluate material properties and detect defects without damaging the structure.
  • Material Thickness Measurements
    • Measuring material thickness using ultrasonic testing to assess wear and remaining life in critical components.
  • In-Situ Concrete Compressive Strength Estimation
    • Estimating the compressive strength of in-situ concrete to determine its load-bearing capacity and identify potential weaknesses.
  • Weld Inspection and Analysis
    • Conducting detailed inspections of welds using advanced NDT techniques to ensure the integrity and safety of welded joints in structural steel.
  • Comprehensive Reporting and Documentation
    • Providing thorough reports and documentation of all inspection and testing results, including actionable recommendations for maintenance, repair, or further investigation.
  • Compliance with Industry Standards
    • Ensuring all inspection and testing procedures adhere to relevant industry standards, including ASTM, CSA, and MTO specifications.
